Architect Tayo Babalakin

Arc. Omotayo Muftau Babalakin was born on the 3rd of February, 1964 to the family of Hon. Justice Bolarinwa Oyegoke Babalakin and Hajia Ramat Ibironke Babalakin of Gbongan, Osun State.
Education
He attended the prestigious Government College, Ibadan in 1974-79 for his Primary Education graduating with Grade 1 in West African School Certificate ‘O’ levels examination in 1979. He later proceeded to Federal Government College, Ilorin for his ‘A’ Levels between 1979 and 1981.
He holds B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc. in Architecture in 1984 and 1986 respectively from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria where upon successful completion of his first degree, was offered the position of a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Architecture during his post graduate studies. He is also an Alumnus of Architectural Association School, London from where he obtained a Graduate Diploma in Energy Studies (climate Responsive Architecture) in 1990.
Professional Career
Arc. Omotayo Muftau Babalakin has more than three decades of experience in rendering services in Architecture and Project Management serving in Habitat Associates, Klif Consultants, Building Consultants Limited and Structural Design Consultants Limited.
He is one of the founding partners of Klif Consultants, an architectural partnership providing Architectural, Building Consultancy and Project Management Services, Landscape and Interior Design solutions for various categories of clients that was established in 1990.
Arc. Babalakin currently occupies the position of founding and managing partner at Consultants Collaborative Partnership; a multi-disciplinary consulting firm created from the collaboration of Klif Consultants, Structural Design Consultants Limited and Building Consultants Limited in 2011 with a portfolio of over 150 projects worth billions of naira within Nigeria, Ghana and Rwanda.
He is also one of the founding members and a past President of Association of Consulting Architects, Nigeria (ACANigeria), (2013 -2015), Assist Secretary General of the African Union of Architects (2015 -2018), Vice President, African Union of Architects (2018-2022), Member of the Board of Governors, Daywaterman College, Abeokuta, Ogun State and Member of the Nigerian- British Chamber of Commerce. Tayo is also an honourary Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors (FNIQS) in recognition of his contributions towards the development of the Institute. He had served as Secretary of Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA) Electoral Commission for two terms (2011, 2013) and meritoriously served as the Chairman for another two terms, (2015, 2017). He has been a major resource personnel for the Education Board in the conduct of NIA professional practice examinations in Lagos over the years.
He has over 35 years of significant experience in Hospitality, Institutional, Educational and Residential Projects and amongst which are Protea Hotel Oakwood Park, Southern Sun Ikoyi Hotel, GTBank Head Office, Lagos, GTBank, Ghana, Tarino Tower, Lagos, Daywaterman College, Abeokuta, Cummins West Africa, Kings Tower, Pactum Tower and numerous luxury apartments within and outside the country (Osborne Towers, Regency Gardens, Bunu Sheriff Gardens, Rebecca Court, Lomalinda Gardens, Regency Court, Empire Court, etc.)
Social and Extracurricular Activities
Arc. Tayo Babalakin was the President of the Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) 1974 class for 14 years, 1994-2008 during which he served meritoriously and pioneered the set to an enviable position. He was awarded the prestigious Government College, Ibadan MERIT award in 2012. Tayo has been one of the motivators of the 1974 class set which have contributed immensely to the success of the Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA)
He is a philanthropist par excellence. As a consummate giver who believes in helping the less privileged in the society, Arc. Tayo Babalakin is known for giving life a meaning to a number of students in various institutions across the country. Tayo has received several merit awards for his contributions to various social and religious organizations in the country over the years.
He is a lover of golf, a game he plays with passion. He was the Captain of the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 for the year 2013 – 2014 and a member of the club since 1992. Arc. Tayo Babalakin is a member of Metropolitan Club, Lagos and Trustee of the Victoria Garden City (VGC) Islamic Community. He is happily married to Dr. Fareeda Babalakin and they are blessed with children.
